Bersamaan dengan Presiden Soekarno mengumumkan Operasi Trikora di Tanah Papua pada 1961, banyak pihak khususnya orang Papua berteriak menuntut konsesi politik akan adanya kemerdekaan bagi Papua. HRWG Sesalkan Protes RI

[JENEWA] Tanggapan resmi Pemerintah Indonesia atas laporan Pelapor Khusus (Special Rapporteur) PBB untuk Tindak Penyiksaan Manfred Nowak dinilai sekadar menutup-nutupi penyiksaan dan perlakuan lain yang kejam dan tidak manusiawi. Koordinator Human Rights Working Group (HRWG) Rafendi Djamin mengatakan, tanggapan Pemerintah RI atas laporan Nowak sangat kontraproduktif terhadap perkembangan politik diplomasi HAM internasional Indonesia. Tanggapan yang dibacakan oleh Dirjen Departemen Hukum dan HAM RI, Harkristuti Harkrisnowo, Senin (10/3), tersebut juga dinilai kontraproduktif terhadap langkah maju penghapusan penyiksaan yang terjadi.
