Washington, D.C. — HOUSE FOREIGN AFFAIRS¹ SUBCOMMITTEE CHAIRMEN CALL UPON INDONESIA TO END UNREASONABLE RESTRICTIONS ON INTERNATIONAL ACCESS TO WEST PAPUA

In a letter dated March 5, 2008 to Indonesia¹s President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Congressman Eni Faleomavaega, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs¹ Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, and the Global Environment, and Congressman Donald Payne, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Africa and Global Health, joined forces in calling upon Indonesia to end unreasonable restrictions on international access to West Papua. [JENEWA] Tanggapan resmi Pemerintah Indonesia atas laporan Pelapor Khusus (Special Rapporteur) PBB untuk Tindak Penyiksaan Manfred Nowak dinilai sekadar menutup-nutupi penyiksaan dan perlakuan lain yang kejam dan tidak manusiawi. Koordinator Human Rights Working Group (HRWG) Rafendi Djamin mengatakan, tanggapan Pemerintah RI atas laporan Nowak sangat kontraproduktif terhadap perkembangan politik diplomasi HAM internasional Indonesia. Ratusan Jenis Flora di Pulau Waigeo

Koleksi yang diperoleh terdiri atas 143 nomor koleksi anggrek dan 411 nomor koleksi umum (non-anggrek). Dari 554 nomor ini, Pulau Waigeo, salah satu dari empat pulau besar di Kepulauan Raja Ampat, Provinsi Irian Jaya Barat, memecahkan rekor. Pulau ini menyumbang ratusan koleksi tumbuhan dalam sekali eksplorasi saja. Padahal, dalam sekali eksplorasi umumnya hanya ditemukan 10 koleksi tumbuhan.
